Did you know that National Nutrition Month® has been a thing since 1973? That's right, this annual celebration of all things nutritious has been going strong for nearly half a century, and there is a different theme every year. This year's theme is serving up some serious food for thought.




Introducing "Beyond the Table" — a theme that looks at more than just what you eat. It covers everything from how food is grown and shipped to the choices you make at the store or market. But it's not just about meals. It includes eating on the run, at school, in restaurants, or even during activities. It's about embracing all the ways we eat and finding ways to make it good for our bodies and the Earth.


NWE tips for eating on the run:

  • Make a plan to have simple snacks available all day. You can keep them in a bag, purse, or even in an insulated bag.

  • Bring your favorite large travel cup or water bottle to stay hydrated all day.

  • Learn common food terms to help you understand a fast-food or restaurant menu better, like baked, fried, and sauteed.

  • Enjoy the foods you love! Remember, one meal won't undo all your progress.


This year's National Nutrition Month theme emphasizes the importance of reducing food waste and making thoughtful decisions about our meals. Each choice we make has an impact, and National Nutrition Month plays a crucial role in raising awareness, dispelling myths, and empowering us to make informed choices.
