The Surprising Link Between Cornhole and Nutrition

Updated: Feb 7

A couple weeks ago I had signed up for a fundraiser/networking event that was a cornhole tournament. I've dabbled with cornhole before. I know how to play but I am no way near good at cornhole.

My friend and I, who was my teammate, rolled up to the event feeling excited and ready to take on our challengers.

We got our lane assignments and met our competitors. We felt confident and ready to have fun as well as be competitive, even though we really lack the experience and practice with playing cornhole outside the times we will throw the bags around in the backyard.

It was a slow start, we lost by A LOT in our first game. As a competitive person, I was getting annoyed with myself with not being great right away.  I kept reminding myself that I was just warming up and getting started when the first game ended.

We took a minute break and then I was back, excited to play the second of 3 games in that round. First few throws, nothing was hitting the board. I was frustrated, thought "what the heck am I doing wrong?!"  but I just kept going and trying.

Then, I was up again to throw the bags. I tossed it down the lane and it went right in, not slide or anything. Then the second bag did the same thing. I was SO excited! And the THIRD went right in, too! BAM 9 points on the board and it felt GREAT. We were heating up and I was ecstatic!

Everything came together in that round and it felt SO good. As I waited for my teammate to throw the bags back in her round, I felt the excitement creep in with hopes I could do it again. But, no matter how hard I tried or focused, I couldn't replicate. I learned some tricks and got points but couldn't get anything to go right in the hole again. We got swept, 3-0 and I was bummed but I was reminded of something:

With our nutrition, when you come to us, you most likely don't have much experience with nutrition education and coaching in order to hit your goals. You, just like how I felt with cornhole, feel lost and confused when you get started. You know what to do but not the right steps to make it happen for good. You KNOW you want to make a change. You're even excited to start but nervous at the same time.

Once we dive into the trainings and education, plus how you can apply this to your life, the stress of not knowing what to do or where to starts goes away because you have the support and guidance to make the change happen and build momentum. Just like how I started to figure out how to hit the board regularly during the tournament.

Some weeks as you're plugging along through your nutrition journey and feel like you're crushing it. You feel like everything is falling into place, you're triumphing and feeling the same way I did when I hit the 3 bags in the hole back to back to back. You feel SO good.

Other weeks, you feel like you're missing the mark completely. Meals aren't going as planned, you have to skip workouts and feel like you're spinning your wheels, exhausted and annoyed at yourself for not being able to make it happen again. Just like when my bags weren't even hitting the board as I threw them, I was doing it but it just wasn't clicking. It feels stressful and annoying to not be doing as well when you know you can hit the mark as you did in the past. But,you still keep pushing along for the next week.

I share this with you because I know how frustrating it can be when you've got the motivation and the best laid plans but it's just not working out. We can either throw in the towel and feel defeated, or we can keep showing up, learning and adjusting along the way to make the progress happen. Just like I kept throwing the cornhole bags working on my game.
