Hello, everyone!! My name is Emily K. (so there isn’t any confusion lol) and I am SO excited to be here, like really really excited! I live in a small town in Pennsylvania, where I grew up. I live with my boyfriend and hopefully, sometime soon, we can bring a puppy into the picture. I have been in the nutrition/dietetics world for about 10 years and I am constantly and consistently learning - and I LOVE it. I can talk about food all day long. I have been working as a nutritionist for 2 years and while I love helping my community, I have always yearned for something more.
When talking to my friends and loved ones, I am quickly reminded of how much misinformation is thrown around in regards to food and nutrition. Most of the time, our conversations consist of me debunking myths they have heard and helping them realize that leading a healthy lifestyle is not as complicated as the internet makes it seem. At the end of the day, finding what works for you makes all the difference.
I have gone through my fair share of fad dieting and believing everything I read online or saw in the magazines about nutrition, specifically weight loss. I used to take shots of apple cider vinegar first thing in the morning to “speed up my metabolism”, I would add some type of “special” syrup to my water to work as a “fat burner”, and so on. I’ve been there. I’ve also taken a leap of faith and asked for help from a professional and it was the best decision I ever made. It took me so long to ask for help, especially since I’m considered an expert in nutrition. Why would I need help with food and nutrition when I studied it for so long?
Because we all need help sometimes and there is no shame in that.
Not only did I learn about food, I learned how much I was eating, what was in the foods I was eating, how they affected my mood/energy/sleep, and so on. I also learned how to have a healthy relationship with food. We don’t need to “earn” certain foods; in fact, we don’t need to give foods any power at all. It isn’t until you truly question why you do the things you do, that you begin to work on bettering that behavior.
I want to help you question your behaviors and work on figuring out what the best solution is for YOU! I’m so excited to be a part of the Nourished with Emily team and help you reach your goals!
